Government House,
Hongkong,
24th.December,1909.
I have the honour to request that
a copy of the document marked "Eastern 73" enclosed in
CA
Colonial Office Letter No. 9/1903-4 of the 6th. January
1904, may be supplied for the use of this Government as no
copy of it appears to have been forwarded in Mr. Lyttel-
-ton's Despatch No. 9 of the 9th. idem.
2.
This Government suggested a salary
of £240 to £300 for the post filled by Mr. A. Lane, and it
was not intended that the incumbent should enjoy the
privilege of free passage to and from England on leave
which is accorded to the Police.
3.
Mr. Lane was, however, appointed
on a salary of £216 to £240 which approximates to that of
an Inspector of Police (£220 to £240) and he contends that
your predecessor intentionally fixed his salary at that of
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
THE EARL OF CHEWE,
800.
